Anthem Releases In Early 2019 To Make Room For A New Battlefield Game In October
It's not a delay, according to Blake Jorgensen.
EA has confirmed that Bioware's Anthem will release in 2019 so there's room for a new Battlefield.
CFO Blake Jorgensen confirmed this to the Wall Street Journal, saying that Anthem will be released during the first quarter of 2019. The new release window isn't a delay, according to Jorgensen, even though the game was announced for autumn 2018 at last year's E3.
"It's not a delay" Jorgensen said, "People are trying to create a story", and the company has decided that Anthem will "get more attention if it came out in a quieter quarter".
Due to EA's plans to release a new Battlefield game in October, it felt that moving Anthem to Q1 2019 would provide the new IP more of an open release window instead of releasing it in the middle of the busy autumn release season.
A report last week said that Anthem would miss its "unrealistic" autumn 2018 window and would arrive in 2019 for PC & consoles.
Even though we've heard this snippet of news about a new Battlefield making its way to us in October, Jorgensen didn't say anything about it, neither did EA officers on the Q3 official call yesterday evening. Rumours have been flying around online however of the next Battlefield being Bad Company 3. As always with rumours, it's worth taking them with a pinch of salt until they're officially announced.
