Cross Platform Minecraft Update Enters Beta On PC & Android
Xbox One to soon follow.
Good news for Windows 10 PC and Android Minecraft players! A new update is available to beta test right now, so hop to it. It's part of the Better Together update, and the cross platform feature has been confirmed for all versions except for the PS4 as Sony refused to join in on the fun.
This will come in the form of a separate new version of the game for Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, however the old version will still be playable. Xbox One players will be able to help out with the beta testing "in the coming days", Microsoft stated in a blog update. Nintendo Switch players won't get the chance to beta test, however they will also be getting cross network play.
The Better Together beta also includes some new additions and features, and beta testers will be able to try them all out. Sweet. No servers will be available during the beta, but the PC & Android versions have the marketplace open for business.
To test out the beta on PC and Xbox One, you will need to own the digital version of Minecraft. You'll then need to install the Insider Hub app, where you'll find the Minecraft beta. Simply press join, and bam, you're in. The point of the beta is to help "stress test what we've built so far and uncover any bugs so we can squish them before the official launch", much like other betas, so you'll be contributing valuable information to help make the launch go as smoothly as possible!
To join the beta on an Android device, simply follow the instructions here, and you'll be good to go!
Worlds that you've been hard at work at will appear in the Better Together update, and if you're on Xbox One or Nintendo Switch, you'll get extra world generated for you when you reach the edge of your map.
