Minecraft Film To Be Released In 2019
Minecraft due to release in May 2019.
Mojang has announced that their Minecraft film being released in 3 years. According to a post on the developer's website, the film should be in cinemas on 24th May 2019. As well as 2D cinemas, the film will be exhibited in 3D and IMAX.
Rob McElhenney, who played Mac in "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia", will be directing the Minecraft film; he's also directed some episodes of "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia". Warner Bros Animation, the studio who helped create "The Lego Movie" is also in on helping to make the film.
A couple of video game movies have already been released this year, such as "The Angry Birds Movie", and "Warcraft: The Beginning". Ubisoft's "Assassin's Creed" is due to come out at the end of this year.
Seeing how Minecraft is a very popular game (selling 100 million units so far) with a very large fanbase, its global appeal may propel this film to being one of the most successful video game movies known so far. The most successful game movie so far is "Warcraft: The Beginning", partly down to strong ticket sales in China.
