British Isles mapped out in Minecraft
Ordnance Survey builds Blighty from blocks.
A huge map of the British Isles has been lovingly Minecrafted and made available for free by Ordnance Survey.
22 million blocks were used in bringing Britain to life in this huge-scale Minecraft map, representing an area of 220,000 square kilometres. The map is available as a free download, but will require 5GB worth of free HDD space, 4GB of RAM and a copy of Minecraft on PC.
Users will spawn next to Ordnance Survey, and can fly around the country to visit landmark destinations such as central London, Snowdonia and Poole Harbor.
Each block represents 50 square meters, with different blocks representing different terrain. Roads and motorways for example are made up of different coloured blocks. The map was created using a combination of OS Terrain and OS VectorMap files.
The map is available to download at the Ordnance Survey website. Let us know what you think of Minecraft's Britain in the comment section below.
In the meantime, I'm off to download Britain and begin construction of GameSeek towers.
