This Year's Battlefield Game Is Battlefield 5 & Is Set In World War 2 - Report
Title screen revealed... it's pretty.
A new report says that 2018's release of Battlefield will be marching into World War 2, and that it's going to be called Battlefield 5; internally it was known as Battlefield 2 until DICE changed the name. This naming system confuses me.
The report comes from a Venture Beat report, which has confirmed that the image below of the upcoming game's title screen is real.
Apparently the choice of setting was decided on a few years ago when DICE knew it needed to take a break from modern military games. The plan was to release a WW1 game first, and then follow it up with a WW2 one in case the former wasn't taken to. We all know Battlefield 1 was very well received, making it one of the best selling entries in the series.
The only other main WW2 Battlefield game is Battlefield 1942 which came out in 2002, if you don't count the Battlefield 1943 spin off.
Another report has confirmed that "loot boxes are back but as cosmetic only. Way more customisation options for your soldiers than previous games".
You may remember a rumour from December about DICE working on Battlefield: Bad Company 3 which takes place around the Vietnam War. According to the above report, it's not accurate. Sorry folks. It says "If EA is considering a sequel to its console focused Bad Company spinoff series, it likely won't happen soon".
