GameSeek Marketplace: Thinking Back…
Our Marketplace Manager shares his thoughts.
It’s always good to step-back once in a while and take stock on what you have achieved. Reaching the milestone of 1000 selling Partners on GameSeek Marketplace put me in a reflective mood. If this were a cheesy TV programme the picture would go all wavy at this point and the sound of someone rabidly strumming a harp would waft through the speakers to signify that we are stepping back in time…
The focus re-sharpens and fades-in to the calendar on my desk. It displays: July 2017 and has the words “Marketplace Launches!” on it in bold handwriting. Even getting this far took a lot of planning and work. We started with two main basic principles:
- Bring the ‘personal touch’ of high-street shopping to the online arena
- The Marketplace must be completely fair to all. No Partners getting preferential treatment. No Partner left ‘out in the cold’ wondering how to win the buy box. A place where the Partners had as much chance to sell as we did. A place where we wouldn’t use our advantages over them, but use them to help them grow.
Another thing we wanted to do was to give everyone the opportunity to start their own business. Before growing into a large multi-national retailer within the InStock group of companies, GameSeek started in the modest bedroom of a modest house in Middlewich, Cheshire. We wanted to welcome anyone who had the same spirit within them to try it for themselves.
As such, we took out the hurdles many face when joining a marketplace and made it as easy as possible for anyone to join. As long as they can perform and look after the customer to a high standard they are welcome to join the family.
Fast-forward to the present day and our family has grown massively. There is still a long way to go though and we’re not going to rest on our proverbial laurels. There are still Partners we need to help and features we need to implement but the foundations have been laid upon the cornerstone of our principles.
I want to thank every single Partner who has signed up and wish them all the very best of luck and success for the future. Together we can change the face of online retail for the better.
