Paladins To Receive A Battle Royale Mode At Some Point This Year
Paladins' new mode, called "Battlegrounds", will launch at some point this year. 100 players will be dropped on a map 300x bigger than a typical Siege map, where they will grab gear along the way and eliminate the enemy. The major difference between Paladins' Battlegrounds mode and PUBG is that Paladins' version will be team based, and those who queue solo will be put into squads automatically.
Erez Goren, Hi-Rez CEO, was pretty candid about the mode's inspirations. "Just like Battlegrounds mode, obviously we didn't invent anything even remotely close to that, but since our player-base really seems to love playing both PUBG and Fortnite, we figured we might as well give them a taste for that" he said. Goren continued on to say that all game development draws heavily on other pre-existing ideas and there are no "pure creative thoughts" in any game, giving MOBAs as an example.
