Pokemon Ultra Sun & Moon Will Be The Last Core Games Of The Series For 3DS
Goodbyes are hard.
Yup, you read that title right. There will be no more core Pokemon games on the 3DS due to these two games having pushed the "absolute limits" of the system... I'll give you a moment to grab some tissues and compose yourself. It's the end of an era!
Due to the story in Ultra Sun & Moon being double the length of Sun & Moon's, alongside additional content thrown in, it does sound plausible that the 3DS was pushed to its limits.
Game Freak director Shigeru Ohmori said that the team thought it had drawn all that it could from the 3DS with Pokemon X & Y. During Sun & Moon's development, the 3DS system was "completely redesigned", and the team ended up pushing the newer system "even further to what we thought was the most we could draw out of it".
"With Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, we've tried to eke that out more and really, really push the system to its absolute limits" said Ohmori. "We're now feeling that perhaps this is the maximum of what we can get out". "So we're really treating Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon as the culmination of our work with the 3DS system"
Currently there's no word on whether the series would move to Nintendo Switch once Ultra Sun & Moon releases on 17th November. There's currently a Pokemon RPG in the works for the Switch which was teased at E3 this year. Nintendo didn't elaborate on this, only that it was in development, and said to expect the game to arrive "in 2018 or later".
