Super Mario Odyssey runs at 900p when docked, 720p handheld

A recent preview event for Super Mario Odyssey has revealed some information on how the game runs when it is docked vs in handheld mode on Nintendo Switch.
As highlighted in the new video from Digital Foundry (above), Super Mario Odyssey reaches a consistent 60 frames per second whether it is docked or played on the portable screen. The docked version now runs at 900p, up from the 720p resolution we saw from the game at E3.
Some exceptions have been made to get the game running smoothly at 720p when in handheld mode, such as lower draw-distance and shadow detail, alongside resolution being cut in half during cutscenes. However, the video shows that unless you're looking for the smallest of details, the experience of playing Super Mario Odyssey on-the-go will still be superb on Switch's portable screen.
It looks like Nintendo has nailed it, from where we're sitting. The restrictions that have been implemented on the game in portable mode seem well measured and don't detract from the overall experience, with the game performing especially smoothly when docked on the Switch console. We seem to have a classic Mario game on our hands. Our ticket for the hype train has been punched.
Super Mario Odyssey is out on October 27th for Nintendo Switch. Getting it?
