Destiny 2 tops UK gaming charts, physical week one sales less than half of its predecessor
Destiny 2 reached 1.2 million concurrent players over the weekend.
It should come as no surprise to see Destiny 2 sitting at the top of the UK gaming charts during launch week, but at first glance, the game hasn't performed as well as its predecessor.
58 per cent of the total sales for the Destiny sequel went to PS4, and 42 per cent to Xbox One. The original Destiny, in comparison, sold 51 per cent on Sony consoles (PlayStation 4 and PS3), and 49 per cent on Xbox One and Xbox 360 - showing a more even split amongst the competition.
Physical sales for Destiny 2 were down 58 per cent from the original title which launched in 2014, showing an apparent shift from consumers over to digital purchasing. Unfortunately, digital numbers aren't included in the charts, but Bungie revealed a very healthy playerbase for the game, which had 1.2 million concurrent players on over the weekend, with the PC release still to come.
Thank you all so much for playing, Guardians! Right now Destiny 2 has over 1.2 Million concurrent players online. We'll see you in the wild.— Bungie (@Bungie) September 9, 2017
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy moved down to the No.2 spot in this week's charts, with sales falling 48 per cent week-on-week. Microsoft exclusive Forza Horizon 3 jumped from No.10 to No.3 this week, following a bundle promotion for the game on Xbox One S.
Bethesda had a strong showing this week with both Fallout 4 and Disnonored 2 climbing up the charts to No.5 and No.8, respectively. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle for the Nintendo Switch fell to No.10 with a 69 per cent drop in sales.
New entry Knack II failed to make it into the Top 10, landing at No.12. See the full Top 10 below:
