Microsoft takes a swing at Sony with unofficial Destiny marketing campaign
"Thanks for smelling that something was up."
Have you noticed that Microsoft has been keeping uncharacteristically quiet about the upcoming release of Destiny?
Although Bungie's latest shooter is a multiplatform title, Activision Blizzard has struck up a deal with Sony to give the platform holder the lion's share of marketing space, including exclusive content for Destiny on PlayStation.
Microsoft has figured out a cool little workaround to alert Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners that Destiny is still coming to their platform, despite the company's silence when it comes to advertising the game.
The 'Fragrance by Xbox' campaign is their answer to Sony's Destiny exclusivity deals.
"Okay, so here's the lowdown," the promo reads. "Destiny is actually an epic new first-person shooter, available on Xbox. Thing is, we didn't have permission to run adverts for the game.
"So we didn't. Thanks for smelling that something was up. Now get the game and become a legend."
What do you make of this? Shots fired or just a bit of fun? Let us know!
