Shenmue 3 Kickstarter raised over $6.3 million

Campaign comes to a close.

The Shenmue 3 Kickstarter came to a close over the weekend, with the crowd funded title pulling in a huge $6,333,296, and a total of 69,320 backers.

It becomes the highest ever funded video game, and third highest 'games' project, behind Exploding Kitten ($8,782,571) and the Ouya Android console ($8,596,474).

Shenmue 3 raised the sixth highest Kickstarter total of all time.

Announced at Sony's E3 2015 presentation, Shenmue 3 quickly became the fastest game to hit the $1 million mark on Kickstarter, just 1 hour and 42 minutes into the campaign. It raised over $2 million in only 9 hours.

Creator Yu Suzuki previously stated that $10 million would allow him to make his perfect vision of the game. It is not yet known if Sony will chip in to raise the total funds.

Shenmue 3 is currently pegged for a December 2017 release.

Didn't back these because heavily story driven games are not my cup of tea but it was a thrill to discover this was coming.

Kickstarters can be a con, I got stung for a fortune on operation babylon......so beware of kickstarters.

I hope that Sony puts the funds in to get the magical 10 Million amount. I don't think Yu Suzuki can live up to what people are envisioning this to be without it and I want Shenmue 3!, not Almost Shenmue 3.
