Unique, Brilliant, Inspired
I bought this game by chance at a car boot. Since then I have not been able to stop playing it. Hostile Waters is a little dated now, it’s been around for ages. The graphics look blockier than you’d expect from a more recent game. But then, once you play it, you won’t care. The premise of the game is humans have developed nano-technology to resurrect earth from the ashes of an apocolypse. Then a group called the Cabal threaten the peace of the planet. To respond to this threat they resurrect a super carrier called Antaeus. This has a nano-tech engine that creates vehicles for you to use. But this requires energy, so you have to harvest energy from buildings and defeated foes. The game consists of 21 missions that gradually get harder. You ***ign soulcatcher chips to vehicles, or drive them yourself. Soulcatcher chips capture the personality of a downed pilot. There is a short cutscene between each mission that tells the story. I sincerely hope they make a sequel!
