Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH announced that the eagerly-awaited Metal Gear Solid® 4: Guns of the Patriots for PLAYSTATION 3 will be released across Europe on June 12th.

The game will be released on a Blu-Ray disc containing both Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Kojima Productions’ Metal Gear Online – a dedicated online title that uses locations and gameplay elements from Guns of the Patriots. Together, they form a stunning conclusion to Hideo Kojima’s involvement in the final chapter to the Solid Snake saga.

With the anticipation for Metal Gear Solid 4 and Metal Gear Online growing at a phenomenal rate, Konami will whet appetites with a public beta version of Metal Gear Online before the release of Metal Gear Solid 4.

Concluding Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid saga, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is set in a battle-scarred future where huge conglomerates fight for supremacy using armies of hand-picked mercenaries. This devastated world is seen through the battle-weary eyes of an older Solid Snake who has been charged with infiltrating a number of key locations across the globe, including the Middle East and South America. As such, the epic end to Snake’s story offers ground-breaking combat elements, a refined control system that offers unprecedented control over the aged hero, and the tying up of key plot lines and loose ends.

Similarly, the accompanying Metal Gear Online features all the stunning stealth and combat elements of Guns of the Patriots, as it drops the player into a series of war zones and game options. With all-out ‘Last Man Standing’ battles to rescue and protection missions, Metal Gear Online effortlessly transfers the sublime control system of the series to an online competition, creating an absorbing battle between like-minded fans.

If you’re a ’Metal Gear’ fan, you’ll love this!

Having played through Metal Gear Solid’s 1 to 3, i was looking forward to the next-gen fourth installment. I was not disappointed! I won’t bore you with the story (its pretty complicated stuff), but some elements of the gameplay from the previous games have been tweaked. Firstly, stealth is no longer essential, as you can go at it all guns blazing (however stealth does has its benefits) if you wish. Another thing is the ’SolidEye’ - an eye patch snake wears, that enables him to switch from night vision, or long range etc..No more fiddling about with selecting different goggles then! You can hide in bins now, as well as the usual lockers, and when you attempt to creep up on an enemy, they can smell you - genius!! Another really neat touch the introduction of your weapons dealer ’Drebin’. As you collect ammo from enemies throughout the game, you collect ’Drebin Points’, and you can purchase new weapons, extra ammo, silencers etc.. The cut-scenes are very entertaining, and not as long as the previous games (Metal Gear Solid 3 had a cut-scene about 45 minutes long!!). Boss battles are fairly long, but great fun. Graphics are excellent, and the game looks great in Hi-Def. The sound is top notch too, with the cinematic music, and bullets sprayed around the room through surround sound speakers. Haven’t tried the ’Metal Gear Online’ mode yet, so i can’t comment on that. Overall, a superb game for the PS3, that fans will enjoy, and even newbies to the series too.

LOS ANGELES--Naomi Hunter. Colonel Roy Campbell. Meryl Silverburgh. Raiden. Liquid...Ocelot? Those are the familiar faces unveiled during a new trailer for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots at Sony’s Electronic Entertainment Expo press conference today. If you’ve been keeping up (and we know you have), you know that Solid Snake is one old fogy in his PlayStation 3 debut, unveiled at last year’s Tokyo Game Show. Today, Sony dropped a short new trailer that really focused less on explosive action and more on the unveiling of these new characters, with Snake’s pensive ruminations on the state of modern warfare providing the backdrop (which you heard in Hideo Kojima’s audio blog last week). But for longtime fans of Metal Gear, this short, understated trailer was a bigger punch to the gut than any number of giant, rampaging, bipedal robots. The biggest shocker? Every character featured in the trailer has undergone some costume changes, but they’re basically all the same age. Snake is the only one who’s aged a significant amount, so there’s definitely something fishy going on here. But then, with his dubious genetic history, who can honestly say what’s up with Snake’s rapidly advancing age? What we can say is, all these characters have done some, uh, maturing since we last saw them. Naomi’s looking awfully haggard. Meryl’s sauntering over, uttering "We’re the new Foxhound" in a rather menacing fashion. "Liquid" Ocelot is sporting a fierce ’70s style, with big, rose-colored shades and a silver mullet. And Raiden...holy cow, Raiden’s like the new cyborg ninja, wearing a crazy mechanized suit, flipping around in the midst of battle and speaking to Snake in gravelly new tones, "It’s my turn to protect you." Our fanboy hearts are absolutely thudding in our chests. Otherwise, you’ve got Snake lamenting the regimented, metered manner of war in the future. ID-tagged weapons keyed to ID-tagged soldiers, nanomachines enhancing the soldier’s natural ability, "an endless series of proxy battles, fought by mercenaries and machines." Continuing: "Genetic control, information control, emotion control, battlefield control. The age of deterrence is now the age of control." Say what you want about Kojima’s games, but he can write some punchy dialogue. And at the end, we see Snake sitting alone in a bombed-out shelter, gazing listlessly at his pistol before putting the piece in his mouth. "One more thing I must do. One last punishment I must endure."
