Great product, just what you need for low light work

I bought this keyboard for low light gaming and it works just great. The best effect is with the light level at the lowest setting. The keys are smooth and quiet with a good feel. In normal light it is better to turn off the led to gain good contrast. Build quality is very good indeed. Highly recommended.

pay extra for gimmicks u dont need.

The Eclipse seems to be solidly built. it has a nice chunky feel to it, and its heavy. It looks great, if viewed from directly above, or from a pro photographers bench, with no monitor to shine on it. Ideal catalogue material. Well thats the Pro’s out of the way. The Con’s ( in real life .... ) The Eclipse is so flat, in comparison to what ive used before, that it seems to be almost tipping away from me. Even with the leg raisers it only just gets to the angle of my regular old keyboard. The tacky wristrest does nothing to compensate. In the dark, the underlighting is next to useless, as the monitor illuminates the silver coating against the blue light, and theres more coating than letter. At the normal viewing angle the gaps between the keys reflect more light than the cutout letters do. This completely destroys any visual benefit gained from the underlighting. So what was the point? Its better both in daylight and darkness with the LEDs switched off, unless you hide the Eclipse under the desk on your knees or something. Aaaah i get it now, you have to put the keyboard in the shadows to see it, hence Eclipse ! It does, however, have good contrast with the backlight switched off altho the keys silver coat looks like it will wear thin pretty soon. So thats gonna be black letters on black/Darkgrey background. great! I feel i’d be better tying a mini maglite to my head and using a good normal keyboard. On the whole, if your a kid who likes gimmicks, and black/ silver / blue livery, then yeh its ok, otherwise its a waste of money for the extra "effects". Buy a good solid keyboard and a small low level desklamp. This ones going on ebay as soon as i’ve finished the review. Sorry Saitek, this looks like a piece of engineering that was launched prior to field test, or the testers were kids pleased by gimmicky looks. Disappointing.
