Wings over China re-creates the battles that saved China from Japan. In the summer of 1941, well before the United States officially entered World War II, 100 adventurous American pilots volunteered their lives to help China defend itself against Japan. Over the next 17 months, the American Volunteer Group gained international fame as the Flying Tigers and boasted one of the best combat records of the war.

Wings over China puts you in the cockpit of the Hell’s Angel of World War II fighters--the fast, mean, and scary-looking P-40 Warhawk. This add-on for Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator brings you 12 new aircraft from the Pacific theater, new maps and background scenery for China, and 20 new missions. The shark-toothed P-40 flown by the Flying Tigers is the star of the show, roaring into combat in all but two of the missions. Unlike the original Combat Flight Simulator, Wings over China does not include missions from the Axis perspective--the six new Japanese planes can only be flown in Quick Combat mode or in multiplayer games on Microsoft’s Game Zone.
If you play Combat Flight Simulator, you’ll want this game. The aircraft paint jobs are beautiful, the Asian scenery looks jungle-riffic, and the new flight models force you to fight the way the Flying Tigers fought, especially at higher difficulty levels. Getting caught in a turning battle with the more maneuverable Japanese fighters is suicide--your P-40 is built for quick climbs, fast dives, and high-firepower kills delivered by the airborne equivalent of a drive-by shotgun blast.

The manual contains historical notes on the air war in China, technical specs for the new planes, and instructions for playing the new missions. These instructions are not complete--don’t pay too much attention to them and miss the fact that Wings over China supports a Custom Campaign that allows you to play through the entire history of the Flying Tigers.
