A collection of films by the popular 1930s comedian. In 'Big Broadcast of 1938', Fields plays T.F. Bellows, owner of an ocean liner who challenges his rival to a race. In 'The Bank Dick (1940), Egbert Souse (Fields) is a henpecked husband who lands a job as a bank guard, only to try embezzling his employers. In 'You Can't Cheat an Honest Man' (1939), Fields plays Larson E. Whipsnade, owner of a seedy circus perpetually in debt. In 'My Little Chickadee' (1940), Fields is Cuthbert J.Twillie, inveterate western con-man, installed as sheriff by town boss Jeff Badger (Joseph Calleia). In 'Man on the Flying Trapeze' (1935), hard-working, henpecked Ambrose Ambrose Wolfinger (Fields) takes off from work to go to a wrestling match with catastrophic consequences. In 'Mrs Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch' (1934), Fields plays the neighbour of down-at-heel Mrs Wiggs, who's family is suffering through the depression. In 'The Old Fashioned Way' (1934), a penniless travelling theatre troupe fights to put on a production of 'The Drunkard'. In 'You're Telling Me!' (1934), Sam Bisbee (Fields), a hard-drinking, socially-awkward inventor, wrecks his daughter's chances of marriage into a rich family and bungles his own chances of success by selling one of his more practical inventions. In 'Six of a Kind' (1934), the unsuspecting targets of a robbery end up being arrested by Nuggetville Sheriff 'Honest John' Hoxley (Fields). In 'International House' (1933), Professor Henry Quail (Fields) and a cast of wacky characters converge on a Chinese hotel to bid on a new invention...television. In 'Million Dollar Legs' (1932), Fields plays the President of a small country on the verge of bankruptcy that decides to enter the Olympics. In 'If I Had a Million' (1932), a dying tycoon decides to give million-dollar handouts to eight people picked from the phone book. In Mississippi' (1935), Fields plays a riverboat singer lauded as a gunslinger after his opponent accidentally shoots himself. In 'Poppy' (1936), snake-oil salesman Eustace McGargle (Fields) will do anything for his cherished daughter. In 'Never Give a Sucker an Even Break' (1941), Fields travels to Mexico to woo Mrs Hemogloben (Margaret Dumont), and hopefully sell a story to a film studio. In 'It's a Gift' (1934), a henpecked New Jersey grocer (Fields) makes plans to move to California to grow oranges, despite the resistance of his overbearing wife. In 'Alice in Wonderland' (1933), Fields plays 'Humpty Dumpty' in the Lewis Carroll classic. Finally, in 'Tillie and Gus' (1933) Augustus Winterbottom (Fields) has to win a boat race against rival Phineas Pratt (Clarence Wilson) to stop him claiming a ferry franchise. W.C.
